The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex), which opened at 8,905.56 points, was trading at 8,868.02 points, down 0.4 percent or 34.54 points from Wednesday's close.
The S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was at 2,753.7 points, 0.32 percent lower than its last close of 2,762.5 points.
The BSE midcap index was 0.05 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index was down 0.74 percent.
