ET: Euro down against US dollar

The euro slipped slightly Monday against the U.S. dollar, giving back some of the gains it made at the end of last week when Washington reported a spike in unemployment.
The 16-nation euro bought $1.2635 in morning European trading, down from $1.2662 late Friday in New York.

The British pound fell to $1.4061 from $1.4094 in New York, while the dollar rose to purchase 98.38 Japanese yen from 97.95 yen late Friday.

The dollar was weakened Friday after the U.S. Labor Department said 8.1 percent of Americans were out of work in February, from 7.6 percent in January, and employers cut 651,000 jobs during the month. Both figures came in worse than analysts had expected.
