After a weak opening, airline stocks were mixed Monday morning, following a drop in the wider market and rising oil prices.
At last check, the Amex Airline index slipped 1% to 12.89 points, edging closer to its all-time low of 12.66 set this summer, when oil prices hit record highs. Of its 13 components, six in the benchmark index were trading up.
In the wider market, the Dow Jones Industrial Index shed nearly 11 points to 6,617. And crude for April delivery was up 4% to $47.34 in electronic trading.
Shares of United Airlines parent UAL Corp. rose 1% to $3.98, Delta jumped 3% to $4.17 and AMR Corp. added less than 1% to $2.58.
Also trading up were shares of shares of JetBlue, adding 3% to $3.05, after Morgan Stanley raised its rating for the low-cost carrier to overweight from equal weight.
