MW: Tokyo exporters hurt by strong yen; energy stocks decline
Japanese stocks declined Thursday, giving up some of their hefty gains from the previous session, with a strenghtened yen weighing down exporters such as Nissan Motor Co. Energy-related stocks were also hurt in Tokyo and Sydney after crude-oil prices dropped sharply overnight. The Nikkei 225 Average recently dropped 0.8% to 7,317.33, after jumping 4.6% Wednesday, while the broader Topix index fell 1.5% to 711.14. Australia's S&P/ASX 200 gave up early gains and was recently down 0.2%, South Korea's Kospi slipped 0.2% and New Zealand's NZX 50 slid 0.1%.
