The 30-scrip Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) sensitive index (Sensex), which opened at 8,274.78 points, was at 8,387.69 points - a rise of 227.29 points or 2.79 percent from its previous close.
Similarly, the S and amp;P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) gained 2.15 percent from its last close to rule at 2,628.4 points.
The BSE midcap index was ruling 0.45 percent higher, while the BSE smallcap index was up 0.52 percent.
