IST: Dollar trades in lower 98 yen range in early Tokyo deals
The U.S. dollar traded in the lower 98 yen range early Monday in Tokyo, slightly up from its levels late Friday in New York.
At 9 a.m., the dollar fetched 98.08-13 yen against 97.96-98.06 yen in New York and 97.98-98.00 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Friday.
The euro traded at $1.2882-2887 and 126.38-43 yen versus $1.2925-2935 and 126.70-80 yen in New York and $1.2914-2916 and 126.53-57 yen in Tokyo late Friday.
In New York on Friday, the dollar was bought for the yen in parallel with firm U.S. stocks, dealers said.
But ahead of a Group of 20 financial leaders' meeting in the suburbs of London, a tentative mood dominated the market, they said.
The euro also strengthened relative to the yen, at one point hitting 127.28 yen, its highest level against the Japanese currency since early January.
The G-20 finance ministers and central bank governors pledged Saturday to do everything possible to revive growth and bring the ongoing global financial crisis to an end, wrapping up their two-day meeting in Horsham, south of London.
The financial leaders gathered in preparation for the G-20 summit in the British capital on April 2.
