MYS: Sensex pares gains; up 74.50 pts
 
The Sensex having pared some of its gains continues to trade in the positive terrain. Realty stocks gained the most followed by consumer durables and IT.

BSE Midcap and Smallcap index rose 1.31% and 1.70% respectively.

Asian stocks gained in the early trades, led by banks and commodity companies. Nikkei fell 40.35 points, or 0.51%, to trade at 7,931.82, Hang Seng index up by 8.63 points, or 0.07% to trade 13,125.80, whereas Shanghai Composite climbed 35.65 points, or 0.98%, to trade at 2,259.38.

Indian stock market started the day on a positive note after a rise of 1.27% on the previous working day. The 30-share index, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 46.36 points, at 9,023.04 on Thursday.

In the previous day session, the Sensex closed with a gain of 112.86 points, or 1.27%, while the NSE Nifty climbed by 37.25 points, or 1.35%.

Currently, the 30-share index Sensex is trading up 74.50 points, or 0.83%, at 9,051.18, after touching a high of 9,086.77 and a low of 9,023.04. Meanwhile the broad based Nifty is trading higher by 17.50 points, or 0.63%, at 2,812.20, after hitting a high of 2,822.25 and a low of 2,796.25. (10.54 a.m.)



Overall market breadth is positive. Out of the total 1,813 stocks traded at BSE, 1,203 advanced, 542 declined while 68 remained unchanged.

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Jaiprakash Associates (9.62%), DLF (9.62%), ICICI Bank (5.95%), Tata Steel (5.28%), Sterlite Industries (India) (5.20%), and Reliance Energy (5.15%).

On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra (4.36%), Hindustan Unilever (2.89%), Tata Power Company (2.62%), ITC (2.34%), ACC (0.35%), and Bharti Airtel (0.02%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
