RTRS: India copper futures set to open higher, gold flat
India copper futures are expected to open higher on Thursday buoyed by strong U.S. data reviving hopes of demand for the metal, analysts said.
But, a firm rupee would cap the upside later in the session, they added. see [ID:nBOM502039]
The benchmark April contract MCCJ9 on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) closed 0.4 percent lower at 201.40 rupees per kg.
It may open at around 203 rupees per kg, Aurobinda Prasad, deputy manager, research, with Karvy Comtrade in Hyderabad.
The demand outlook for the metal has improved as new orders for long-lasting U.S. goods rose in February for the first time in seven months and new home sales rebounded, suggesting that the economic downturn may be easing a bit. [ID:nN25415362] "The bias in copper is on the higher side today due to strong (U.S.) data." said Karvy's Prasad.
"We might see copper prices moving towards 206/208 later," said Kunal Shah, an analyst with Nirmal Bang Commodities.
March zinc MZIH9 ended 0.9 percent higher at 64 rupees per kg, while lead for March MLDH9 closed flat at 64.65 rupees per kg.
GOLD:
Futures are likely to open flat tracking overseas markets, but may perk up later in the session on strong euro and crude oil, analysts said.
