European shares moved off early lows on Wednesday, as the banking sector staged a turnaround. HSBC Holdings shares climbed 4% while BNP Paribas shares rose 2.7% and UBS shares climbed 1.7%. Still, losses from oil producers kept a lid on gains, with BP shares down 2.3% after a downgrade to sell from Goldman Sachs. The Stoxx 600 index rose 0.3% to 176.93, the U.K. FTSE 100 index traded flat at 3,925.90, the German DAX 30 index was also steady at 4,083.85 and the French CAC-40 index declined 0.1% to 2,805.65.
