The dollar fell slightly against major counterparts Friday, after the Labor Department said the economy shed 663,000 jobs in March, pushing the total number of jobs lost since the recession began to 5.1 million, and the unemployment rate to 8.5%. The dollar index , which measures the greenback against a trade-weighted basket of six major currencies, fell to 84.446, down from 84.474 ahead of the data.
