MW: Gold slightly lower as deflation worries continue
Gold futures fell slightly in early Thursday trading as fears over deflation continued, reducing gold's appeal as a hedge against rising prices. Gold for June delivery fell $2.60, or 0.3%, to $891.10 an ounce in North American electronic trading. The Labor Department reported Wednesday overall consumer prices index fell a seasonally adjusted 0.1% in March. The government also reported Tuesday that inflation at the wholesale level fell more sharply than had been anticipated last month amid weaker energy prices.
