NEW DELHI: Gold prices on Thursday surged to a three-week high of Rs 15,080 per 10 gram in the bullion market here on sustained buying by stockists and jewellery fabricators to meet the current marriage season demand. Gold, which remained on an upward march since the last three days, added another Rs 110 to Rs 15,080 per 10 gram. The rally in gold was backed by reports of the metal in the US markets surging to 931.60 dollar ounce last night. Marketmen said constant buying by stockists and jewellery fabricators to meet the ongoing marriage season demand amid firming global trend mainly attributed to the rise in the precious metal prices. Some funds were seen shifting from weakening equity to the rising bullion for quick gains, which also supported the firming trend, they said. Standard gold and ornaments maintained its upward march for the fourth day and added another Rs 110 each to Rs 15,080 and Rs 14,930 per 10 gram, respectively. Sovereign also gained Rs 100 to Rs 12,450 per piece of eight gram. On the other hand, the silver attracted brisk selling from stockists amid reduced offtake by industrial units at existing higher and lost sizeable ground. Silver ready dropped by Rs 350 to Rs 22,250 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 610 to Rs 22,540 per kg. Silver coins, however, remained flat at Rs 29,100 for buying and Rs 29,200 for selling of 100 pieces.
