RTRS: India copper, gold seen opening down on strong dollar

MUMBAI, June 15 (Reuters) - India's copper futures are expected to open weak on Monday tracking overseas markets and a strong dollar, analysts said.

Shanghai copper fell on Monday, chasing London's slide of nearly 3 percent in the previous session, weighed down by a stronger dollar, losses in other commodities and expectations of slowing Chinese demand over the summer.[nSP424363]

A strong dollar makes dollar-denominated commodities expensive for holders of other currencies and caps demand.

The benchmark June copper MCCM9 on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) on Saturday ended up 0.34 percent at 251.2 rupees. It may open around 250-249 rupees per kg, one analyst said.

June zinc MZIM9 ended up 0.38 percent at 78.9 rupees and lead for June delivery MLDM9 ended up 0.42 percent at 83.85 rupees per kg.

GOLD:

India's gold futures are seen opening weak as a strong dollar is expected to reduce the the yellow metals appeal as an alternative investment, analysts said.

The dollar rose broadly on Monday as investors took profits on other major currencies which had climbed to multi-months highs on hopes for a recovery in the global economy.[USD/]

The benchmark August gold MAUQ9 ended on Saturday at 14,480 rupees, up 0.04 percent from the previous session.

The benchmark August gold MAUQ9 is likely to open around 14,470-14,450 rupees per 10 grams, one analyst said.
