The Sensex ended the day with a loss of 475.33 points, or 3.18% at 14,482.58 after touching a high of 14,996.39 and a low of 14,447.02. The broad-based NSE Nifty declined 161.65 points, or 3.58% at 4,356.15 after hitting a high of 4,517.80 and a low of 4,332.80.
All shares in the Sensex settled with losses. Tata Steel (8.14%), Tata Motors (7.43%), Reliance Capital (7.14%), Hindalco Industries (6.52%), DLF (6.31%), and Reliance Communications (6.20%) were the major losers in the Sensex.
Overall market breadth was considerably negative. Out of the total 2,748 stocks traded at BSE, 694 advanced, 1,985 declined while 69 remained unchanged.
