MW: U.S. stock losses ease in the wake of housing data

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks came off their lows Wednesday after the Commerce Department reported new home sales fell 2.2% in February. "With still high inventories, we don't need any more new homes for the time being," said Peter Boockvar, equity strategist at Miller Tabak. Down about 30 points before the report, the Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU 10,876, -12.78, -0.12%) was lately off 8.32 points to 10,880.51. The S&P 500 Index (SPX 1,173, -1.64, -0.14%) shed 1.72 points to 1,172.71. The Nasdaq Composite was down 7.52 points at 2,407.68.
