The rupee extended its rise in afternoon trade on Thursday tracking the dollar's fall against major currencies overseas, with gains in local shares continuing to boost sentimenet.
At 2:55 p.m. the partially convertible rupee was at 44.52/53 per dollar, stronger than its close of 44.64/65 on Wednesday. "The dollar is down quite a bit now, so that is helping.
Stocks have been more or less steady through the day," a dealer with a private bank said. The index of the dollar against six major currencies was down 0.3 percent.
