By Courtney Schlisserman
May 5 (Bloomberg) -- Service industries in the U.S. expanded in April at the same pace as in the prior month.
The Institute for Supply Management’s index of non- manufacturing businesses, which makes up almost 90 percent of the economy, held at 55.4 for a second month. Readings above 50 signal expansion.
Economists projected the Tempe, Arizona-based group’s index would rise to 56, according to the median of 76 estimates in a Bloomberg News survey. Forecasts ranged from 53.7 to 57.2.
