LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares gained Thursday, up for the second straight session, with financials among the strongest performers. In the sector, hedge fund manager Man Group (UK:EMG 223.10, +7.80, +3.62%) climbed 5% after reporting results. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 1% to 5,086.96, the German DAX index climbed 0.9% to 5,806.66 and the French CAC-40 index advanced 0.7% to 3,433.19.
