MW: Hong Kong up modestly on energy, property shares

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Hong Kong shares posted modest gains Friday, with mainland Chinese energy and property-sector shares finding finding support after Wall Street erased early losses to finish higher. The Hang Seng Index rose 0.3% to 11,612.10, and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.4% to 20,214.86. Shares of Cnooc Ltd. (HK:883 13.44, +0.02, +0.15%) (CEO 173.84, -0.82, -0.47%) and PetroChina Co. (HK:857 8.82, +0.01, +0.11%) (PTR 114.13, -0.93, -0.81%) each rose 0.9% in spite of a decline in crude-oil prices, while China Overseas Land & Investment Ltd. (HK:688 15.76, +0.28, +1.81%) (CAOVY 0.00, 0.00, 0.00%) gained 1.2%, leading Chinese property developers. The Shanghai Composite, meanwhile, declined 0.2% to 2,556.46.
