TD: Euro slips against dollar, down to $1.2233 in early European trading
BERLIN (AP) - The euro has lost a little more ground against the dollar as worries persist about the financial health of European countries.
The 16-nation currency bought $1.2233 in early European trading Tuesday - down from $1.2287 in New York late Monday. The British pound declined to $1.5064 from $1.5110 while the dollar slipped to 88.78 Japanese yen from 89.40 yen.
Worries about surging public debt levels in Europe have weighed on the euro this year.
Leaders of the Group of 20 rich and developing nations pledged at the weekend to cut budget deficits in half over three years, but that didn't give the European currencies much of a boost. Germany and Britain among others already are embarking on austerity drives.
