LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares edged higher on Wednesday, taking back a fraction of ground lost in the previous session when stocks were pounded by worries about global economic growth. In the banking sector, Deutsche Bank (DE:DBK 46.04, 0.00, 0.00%) shares were up 1%, ahead of a three-month tender at the European Central Bank. The German DAX index rose 0.2% to 5,963.49, the French CAC-40 index advanced 0.1% to 3,437.11 and the U.K. FTSE 100 index climbed 0.2% to 4,923.82.
