LONDON (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. dollar remained higher versus the euro (CUR_EURUSD 1.2582, -0.0005, -0.0397%) and lower versus the Japanese yen (CUR_USDYEN 88.4600, -0.1700, -0.1918%) after data showed the U.S. trade deficit widened unexpectedly in May. The euro changed hands at $1.2571 versus the dollar, down 0.2% on the day and little changed from the level seen ahead of the data. The dollar traded at 88.45 yen, off 0.2% on the day.
