LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares advanced on Wednesday after result from U.S. technology giant Intel added to second-quarter U.S. earnings cheer. In the European technology sector, ASML (NL:ASML 25.57, +1.18, +4.82%) (ASML 31.27, +0.98, +3.24%) shares jumped 5.5% after the firm swung to a second-quarter profit. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 0.2% to 5,281.91, the German DAX index climbed 0.4% to 6,213.99 and the French CAC-40 index rose 0.2% to 3,645.47.
