RTTN: TSX Sinks At Open Wednesday Amid Global Growth Worries
 
(RTTNews) - Bay Street stocks plummeted at open Wednesday amid widespread selling. The S&P/TSX Composite Index surrendered 133.97 points or 1.13% to 11,704.32.

The Energy Index was down 1.12%, with a host of stocks including Suncor Energy (SU.TO), Petrobakken Energy (PBN.TO), Nexen Inc. (NXY.TO) and Encana Corp (ECA.TO) slipping over 1% each.

Oil and gas explorer Pacific Rubiales Energy (PRE.TO: News ) eased 0.86% even after it swung to profit in second quarter.

Among base metals stocks, First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) lost close to 4%. Inmet Mining (IMN.TO) and Ivanhoe Mines (IVN.TO) were down over 2% each.

In the financial space, Scotiabank (BNS.TO) and Canadian Western Bank (CWB.TO) moved down over 1% each. Manulife Financial (MFC.TO) shed 3.00%.

Gold stocks were also trading marginally higher despite a recovery in the price of gold.

Iamgold (IMG.TO) gave in 1.13% after reporting lower second-quarter net earnings. Jaguar Mining (JAG.TO) slipped 2.46%.

Meanwhile, construction services company Churchill Corp. (CUQ.TO) edged up 0.10% after reporting improved second quarter net earnings.
