AP: Euro a bit higher against dollar after week of falls, buys $.1.2792

BERLIN (AP) - The euro is a little higher against the dollar after sliding last week as worries over prospects of slowing global growth increased demand for traditional safe-haven currencies.

The European currency bought $1.2792 in Monday morning European trading — up from $1.2755 in New York late Friday.

Intensifying worries about growth in the U.S. and elsewhere weighed on investors' appetite for risk last week. Figures released Friday showed that the eurozone grew more strongly than expected in the second quarter, but economists expect the pace to slow moving forward.

The British pound rose Monday to $1.5613 from $1.5588. The dollar also declined against the Japanese currency, sliding to 85.83 yen from 86.24 yen.
