RTRS: Silver fixes lower; gold battered by euro's decline
* Silver XAG= fixes at 1,788 cents an ounce, compared with
1,794 cents an ounce at the previous London fixing. Spot price
last at $17.88 an ounce, down about 0.2 pct from levels seen
late in New York on Monday at $17.93. Forward rates on Reuters
page SIFO at 0.725 percent along the curve, for one, two,
three, six and twelve months.
* Gold XAU= eases below $1,220/oz in Europe as the euro comes
under pressure and as broad investor liquidation knocks equities
and oil. Spot last at $1,218.85/oz at 1121 GMT, versus $1,223.40
late in New York the day before.
* Platinum XPT= drops about 0.8 pct, taking its lead from the
decline in the base metal market and from the resolution of a
wage dispute over the weekend at Impala Platinum (IMPJ.J), which
had threatened to lead to a strike. Spot last at $1,492.50/oz
versus $1,504.50, while palladium XPD= is last at $476.00 an
ounce, compared with $481.00.
