TOKYO (MarketWatch) -- Japan's Nikkei Stock Average pared its early gains in afternoon trading Monday, as the yen strengthened from morning levels after the Bank of Japan's emergency policy meeting resulted in additional easing steps what were in line with what the market expected. The Nikkei was up 2.4%, after closing the morning session with a 3.1% gain, while the broader Topix index was up 1.9%. Exporters were still higher but most were off session highs, with Toshiba Corp. (JP:6502 409.00, +5.00, +1.24%) (TOSYY 28.90, +0.41, +1.44%) rising 0.9% and Toyota Motor Corp. (JP:7203 2,941, +13.00, +0.44%) (TM 69.36, +0.64, +0.93%) up 0.8%.
