FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- European equities opened with modest gains on Friday, with caution dominating ahead of pivotal data on U.S. nonfarm payrolls. The Stoxx Europe 600 index (ST:SXXP 258.82, +0.64, +0.25%) gained 0.3% to 259 points and Germany's DAX-30 stock index (DX:DAX 6,100, +15.84, +0.26%) edged up 0.2% to 6,094.60 points. France's CAC-40 index (FR:PX1 3,639, +7.14, +0.20%) rose 0.3% to 3,640.36 points and the U.K. FTSE 100 index (UK:UKX 5,383, +12.16, +0.23%) gained 0.2% to 5,381.17 points. Shares of BP PLC (UK:BP. 393.85, +1.25, +0.32%) gained 0.5% after it issued an update on the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. |
