LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets gave up earlier gains to trade mixed Friday, with losses for banks, utilities and energy stocks offsetting gains in the technology and retail sectors. Among the biggest movers, Barclays (UK:BARC 308.35, -6.40, -2.03%) (BCS 19.28, -0.52, -2.63%) dropped 2% in London, while French retailer Carrefour (FR:CA 40.08, +1.84, +4.80%) jumped 4.5% in Paris. The U.K. FTSE 100 index (UK:UKX 5,549, +9.27, +0.17%) rose 0.2% to 5,550.20 and the French CAC 40 index (FR:PX1 3,740, +3.78, +0.10%) added 0.1% at 3,739.40, while the German DAX 30 index (DX:DAX 6,245, -4.38, -0.07%) dropped 0.1% to 6,242.75. |
