NEW YORK, Sept 17 (Reuters) - The price of copper backed away from a 4-1/2 month top above $3.55 per lb in New York futures trade on Friday, under pressure from a stronger dollar and an unexpected slide in U.S. consumer sentiment.
Copper for December delivery HGZ0 on the COMEX metals division of the New York Mercantile Exchange traded around the $3.51 level by 10:22 a.m. EDT (1422 GMT), down from an earlier peak at $3.5525, its highest since late April. (Reporting by Chris Kelly)
