SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Canadian stocks rose on Wednesday, led by a surge in gold-mining stocks after bullion prices rose to another record high over $1,290 an ounce. The S&P/TSX Composite Index [S: CA:ISPTX] gained 30.9 points, or 0.3%, to 12,201.5. The S&P/TSX Global Gold Index rose 1.2% as High River Gold [S: CA:HRG] shares gained 6.3%. Oil and gas stocks also followed energy prices higher, with Vermilion Energy Trust's stock gaining 2.5%.
