FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets opened marginally higher on Monday, with the Stoxx Europe 600 index (ST:SXXP 263.97, +2.90, +1.11%) gaining 0.1% in early trade. France's CAC-40 index and Germany's DAX-30 index both edged up 0.1%. Shares of consumer-products giant Unilever (UL 28.56, +0.47, +1.67%) (UK:ULVR 1,793, 0.00, 0.00%) gained 1.6% after it announced it's agreed to buy U.S.-based Alberto Culver Co. (ACV 31.48, +0.18, +0.58%) for $3.7 billion in cash. The U.K. FTSE 100 index (UK:UKX 5,598, +51.40, +0.93%) fell 0.1% in early trade.
