TD: Euro breaks $1.40 mark again after poor US jobs data, stalemate on currencies
BERLIN (AP) - The euro has risen against the dollar and briefly broken through the $1.40 mark again after poor U.S. jobs data and the failure of a weekend meeting of global finance ministers to resolve currency tensions.
The euro rose to $1.4011 before settling back to $1.3964 early Monday in Europe. It bought $1.3912 in New York late Friday. The dollar also slipped against to 82.01 Japanese yen from 82.07 yen.
Friday's disappointing U.S. jobs report boosted expectations the Federal Reserve will take more action to stimulate the economy - a prospect that has depressed the dollar.
Weekend meetings in Washington didn't end currency tensions centering on U.S.-Chinese differences.
The British pound slipped Monday to $1.5931 from $1.5949.
