RTTN: Dollar Steady Ahead Of U.S. PPI, Trade Balance And Weekly Jobless Claims Data
(RTTNews) - The US Labor Department is due to release its customary weekly jobless claims report for the week ended October 9 at 8:30 AM ET. Economists expect that jobless claims increased marginally to 450,000 for the week from 445,000 reported for the previous week.
The U.S. Labor Department is also scheduled to release its report on the producer price index for September at 8:30 AM ET. Economists expect the headline index to show a 0.2% increase and the core index to show 0.1% growth in the month.
At the same time, the US Department of Commerce will release its trade balance report for September. Economists estimate that the trade gap widened to $44.0 billion in the month compared to a $42.8 billion deficit in the previous month.
Ahead of the data, the US dollar held steady against most major currencies. At present, the greenback is trading at 1.6036 against the pound, 0.9504 against the Swiss franc, 81.21 versus the yen and 1.4090 against the euro.
