MW: U.K. retail sales see unexpected Sept. decline

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- British retail sales volumes fell 0.2% in September from the previous month, the Office for National Statistics reported Thursday. Sales were up 0.5% compared to September 2009. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones Newswires had produced a consensus forecast for a 0.7% monthly rise and a 1.5% year-on-year increase.
