To keep inflation in check, People's Bank of China raised the one-year interest rate to 5.56% from 5.31% earlier this week. The rate increase was the first since 2007.

Oil futures gained about 1.37% to trade at $82.95.
Gold and silver lost about 0.3% and 0.2%, respectively, while copper managed to gain 0.3%.
Pre-Market movers
SanDisk (NASDAQ:SNDK) rallied almost 6% after reporting a 39% jump in profits for the third quarter.
Ebay (NASDAQ:EBAY) increased by roughly 1% after the firm reported better-than-expected earnings yesterday.
Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL) and NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) also gained 3% and 1.2%, respectively.
Agilent Technologies (NASDAQ:PLCE), Citrix Systems (NASDAQ:CTXS), and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) were some of the largest decliners on the pre-markets, dropping by 8%%, 3.9%, and 3.6%, respectively.
