MW: Crude oil, gold stay higher after jobless claims

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude oil and gold futures stayed higher on Thursday, after the Labor Department said jobless claims rose by 2,000 to 439,000 in the latest week. Economists polled by MarketWatch expected claims to rise to 445,000. Crude oil for January delivery gained $1.41, or 1.7%, to $82.45 a barrel. Gold for December rose $17.20, or 1.3%, to $1,354 an ounce.
