LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stocks struggled for direction early Thursday in what's likely to be a quiet trading session as U.S. markets remain closed. Among stocks on the move, newspaper publisher Daily Mail & General Trust (UK:DMGT 540.50, -24.00, -4.25%) dropped 2.4% after reporting its annual results and Thomas Cook Group (UK:TCG 192.80, +3.80, +2.01%) rose 1.6% after agreeing a joint venture in Russia. The U.K. FTSE 100 index (UK:UKX 5,677, +19.41, +0.34%) rose 0.1% to 5,660.85, the French CAC 40 index (FR:PX1 3,740, -7.30, -0.20%) slipped 0.1% to 3,743.80 and the German DAX 30 index (DX:DAX 6,839, +14.91, +0.22%) was flat at 6,826.63. |
