MW: European stocks step lower in early trading

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European stock markets lost ground in early trading Monday after heavy losses for some Asian markets and as crude oil futures rose sharply. Among stocks on the move, LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton (FR:MC 110.35, -1.20, -1.08%) dropped 1.5% in Paris after agreeing to buy Italy's Bulgari (IT:BUL 12.16, +4.57, +60.21%) and Inmarsat PLC (UK:ISAT 603.00, -81.50, -11.91%) dropped 12% in London after reporting its 2010 results. Among the main indexes, the U.K.'s FTSE 100 (UK:UKX 5,982, -8.67, -0.15%) fell 0.3% to 5,972.46, the French CAC 40 (FR:PX1 4,001, -19.52, -0.49%) dropped 0.4% to 4,003.96 and the German DAX 30 index (DX:DAX 7,150, -28.94, -0.40%) was down 0.5% at 7,140.08.
