LONDON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner on Tuesday applauded efforts by European Union leaders to implement reforms in response to the euro-zone debt crisis, according to news reports. In a joint news conference with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble in Berlin, Geithner said European leaders have done the needed work and made it clear they will do what is necessary to hold the euro together. Earlier, Geithner met with German Bundesbank President Axel Weber and European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet in Frankfurt. Geithner and Schaeuble also talked about global efforts to impose sanctions on Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's regime.
