The JSE dropped into the red before close on Tuesday amid a rise in risk aversion which weighed on commodities and local mining counters.
The JSE's all-share index pulled back 1.46 percent and closed at 31 827.42 points.
The gold mining index retreated 0.79 percent, the platinum mining index lost 1.63 percent, while resources slumped 2.54 percent.

Net revenue for the year increased by 82 percent to R2.107-billion, mainly as a result of a change in control and basis for accounting during 2010 and an actual increase in revenue of 29 percent at the Bafokeng Rasimone Platinum Mine.
The actual increase of 29 percent in business revenue resulted from metal prices and higher production volumes, partially reduced by a stronger rand/US dollar exchange rate. The group's share price eased 1.41 percent to 62.95 rand.
