MW: Gold trades at fresh record, $1,438.90 an ounce

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures vied for their second straight record high on Thursday, with most-active April contract (GCJ11 1,439, +0.80, +0.06%) overcoming a weak early start to trade at $1,438.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange. Investors concerns centered around Portugal, where lawmakers rejected an austerity plan and the prime minister resigned, and attacks on rebel cities continued in Libya.
