RTRS: Dollar extends losses vs yen after US jobless claims
The dollar extended declines against the yen on Thursday, falling to a session low, after data showed initial U.S. weekly jobless claims came in higher than expected.
The dollar dropped as low as 82.94 yen JPY= after the data, down 1,1 percent on the day, from around 83.13 prior to the release of the data. The euro was last at $1.4408 EUR= from $1.4402 just before the release of the data though still down 0.2 percent on the day.
The U.S. Labor department reported that initial state jobless benefit claims rose to 412,000 in the latest week, from a revised 385,000 the prior week. Markets were expecting claims of 380,000. [ID:nOAT004784]. (Reporting by Nick Olivari; Editing by Theodore d'Afflisio)
