SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures traded lower Thursday, returning to losses as traders worried oil's recent high prices would crimp demand. Crude for May delivery (CLK11 107.05, -0.06, -0.06%) retreated 17 cents, or 0.2%, to $106.89 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Gold futures took the other direction, albeit modestly. Gold for June delivery (GCM11 1,461.60, +6.00, +0.41%) added $5.30, or 0.4%, to $1,460.90 an ounce on the Comex division of the Nymex.
