TCP: Weak dollar blamed as gas to start rising again | Find cheapest prices here

After a one-week reprieve from price hikes, this week’s gasoline prices are expected to inch upward.

Prices may rise anywhere from one cent to a nickle by the weekend, AAA spokeswoman Jessica Brady said in a press release late Sunday.

Regular unleaded currently is averaging $3.82 a gallon at the gas station, which is the same as a week ago. That follows a 26-cent increase in the last month and 96-cent rise in the last year in Florida.

Regular unleaded now is averaging $3.86 nationally.

The expected price rise is largely attributed to the dollar’s weakness against foreign currencies. That makes crude oil prices rise in the United States despite demand for gasoline being down and stockpiles in the United States unexpectedly increasing last week.

“It’s likely oil prices will yo-yo betweeen $105 and $115 a barrel for the next couple of weeks as various economic reports on supply and demand are released,” she said.
