RTTN: Futures Pointing To Notably Higher Open On Wall Street

(RTTNews) - Stocks are likely to move to the upside in early trading on Monday, extending the strong upward move seen in recent sessions. The major index futures are currently pointing to a notably higher open, with the Dow futures up by 71 points.

The markets are likely to benefit from news that terrorist leader Osama bin Laden was killed by Americans forces in Pakistan. The news has generated some positive sentiment, although President Obama acknowledged that Americans must remain vigilant.

"For over two decades, bin Laden has been al Qaeda's leader and symbol, and has continued to plot attacks against our country and our friends and allies," Obama said. "The death of bin Laden marks the most significant achievement to date in our nation's effort to defeat al Qaeda."

He added, "Yet his death does not mark the end of our effort. There's no doubt that al Qaeda will continue to pursue attacks against us. We must -- and we will -- remain vigilant at home and abroad."

The upward momentum for the markets also comes on the heels of additional news on the merger-and-acquisition front, with the announcements extending a recent string of multi-billion dollar deals.
