RTN:Rupee Off New Multi-week High Against US Dollar
(RTTNews) - The rupee firmed up against the US dollar Tuesday morning, tracking positive domestic equities, hitting a fresh multi-week high of 44.58 in the morning trade. Although the dollar-rupee pair erased some of its gains shortly, it managed to stay above yesterday's closing value of 44.83.
The Indian market gained ground for the second consecutive day as the recent softening in global commodity prices eased inflation worries. Positive global cues also offered support to a certain extent.
The benchmark 30-share Sensex moved in the range of 18,351-18,546 before closing 76 points or 0.41 percent higher at 18,496. The broader Nifty index rose by 24 points or 0.44 percent to 5,556.
