A MAN was yesterday remanded for eight days after being caught with over $30,000 in fake US dollars in his luggage on his arrival at Larnaca from Brussels.
The 32-year-old from Limassol, who travelled via Budapest to Brussels, was stopped by Customs to have his luggage checked.
“At around 3 in the morning, officers spotted 314 US 100-dollar bills, hidden in four different parts of his suitcase,” Larnaca police spokesman Christos Andreou said.
On further inspection, he added, it emerged that the bills were fake.
“The bills were confiscated and sent to Police Headquarters, to confirm their authenticity,” Andreou said.
The 32-year-old was taken to Larnaca CID, where he was questioned and gave a statement. A warrant was then issued for his arrest and he now faces charges that include conspiracy to commit a crime and importation of forged money.
