CHICO — Gas prices in Chico are 5 cents lower than Northern California's average price, but still have a way to go to be cheaper than the nation's average — 19 cents, to be precise.
Prices dropped 32 cents from last month, leaving Chico's average gas price at $3.89 per gallon, according to a press release from AAA. South of Chico, Marysville's $3.78 is the lowest price in Northern California after a 36-cent drop, and just north of Chico, Redding's costs stayed higher at $3.93 after a 30-cent drop from last month.
The national average sits at $3.70, 25 cents down from May.
The lower prices may be relieving for some, but perspective makes the news less pleasant. At the same time last year, the national average was $2.70.
Gas prices are expected to continue to fall after last week's OPEC meeting, at which delegates from oil producing nations couldn't agree on production levels.
This left the Saudi Oil Minister to state that his nation will produce enough to meet the market's needs regardless, a move that is predicted to drive prices of crude oil down.
