MSN:Rupee up by 19 paise vs dollar in early trade

Mumbai, June 21 (PTI) The Indian rupee firmed up by 19 paise to Rs 44.80 per US dollar in early trade Tuesday on fresh selling of the American currency by banks and corporates in view of dollar weakness in overseas markets.

The rupee resumed higher at 44.93/94 per dollar as against Monday''s closing level of 44.99/45.00 and moved up further to 44.80 before quoting at 44.90/92 at 1030 hours.

The domestic currency hovered in a range between 44.80 and 45.00 per dollar during early trade.

Fresh selling of dollars by banks and corporates in view of dollar weakness in overseas markets mainly boosted the rupee value against the dollar, a forex dealer said.

In New York, the euro moved up against the dollar Monday as more European officials conveyed willingness to backstop their debt-strapped members and expressed confidence that Greece will take the steps needed to earn bigger loans.
